8/14/17 - Leaving the island

WILSON!!!!!!! I’M SORRY WILSON.....I AM LEAVING THE ISLAND. I AM NO LONGER A CAST AWAY!!

Sunday night President Tavares called me and told me that I will be transferred to continue as a zone leader in the ALGARVE! The Algarve zone has 28 missionaries and is the biggest zone so it’ll be some hard work but I am super excited! This year our whole mission has been really focused on turning Algarve into a STAKE! (We need 20 more baptisms and 5 more Melchizedek Priesthood holders.) Algarve is the southern coast area of Portugal where it’s all beaches and pretty places.  They get over 10 million tourists a year! I will being going to FARO, the capitol of Algarve, which is a huge city with a university, airport, etc.  The work is still pretty tough down there but it’s alright! I have been prepared and am ready!!

Not only am I excited for this but I am excited for returning to the Algarve for my “revenge”!! I served in Tavira (eastern Algarve) for 12 weeks and didn’t find anyone to teach and we couldn’t ever get anyone to come to Church. I feel like I am Alma in chapter 22 of the book of Alma going back a second time to the city!

Embarrassing story--so we were going home at 9:30 at night when this 70 year old guy came up to us and said he wanted us to see this masterpiece in his room.  We said he had to get home but he told us if we came over he would listen to our message the next day. Being stupid, we agreed. We entered his house and then his room which had the lights off.  He closed the door and I thought I was going to die...then he turned the lights on!!  Instantly we saw pornography over all the walls in his room. Closing my eyes, he just looked at me and said, "Do you like my masterpiece?"  We gave him the law of chastity pamphlet and got out of there ASAP!  ONLY HERE IN THE AÇORES!

This week was really slow as far as the work goes. I think we knocked on 1,000,000 doors...and nothing. Even so, I’m really grateful for the opportunity to serve in the Açores. It was hard saying goodbye to the Carters (the best missionary couple who were so good to us) and this zone of missionaries that I love!  I will never forget the things I have learned here and they have changed my life! I know exactly why I needed to come and serve here. I LOVE YOU, AÇORES!

 HELLO FARO!!!
