Wow, what a week, so much has
happened!! We had our divisions on the other island, so we got all our stuff
packed and got on that little airplane that goes from island to island. Because
they are so tiny if the weather is even a little bad they have to delay the
flights. We got our flight delayed by 2 hours and got in at 11pm. We spent the
night in Arngra (a city on the island of Tercira) and had a great district
meeting with the missionaries on that island! I went with Elder Mitton from
Maple Mountain who is so cool! We would’ve been great friends if we’d known
each other before the mission! He is a great missionary and is way funny! Elder
Mitton and his comp were new to the island so they didn’t really know
anyone. I remembered this inactive
family I had visited when I was there 6 weeks earlier, so I suggested we visit
her and see how she is. We went there and she was telling us how she thought we
forgot about her. I asked if we could give her a blessing and she accepted. She
was crying the whole time and told us afterward that she prayed that day for us
to pass by. It really was a great spiritual
experience!
We finally got back to
our island on Thursday. We had lots of things planned for Friday and
were excited. Then everything fell
through in the afternoon. Not only that, but our only investigator, Rodrigo,
was not answering any of our texts and calls and wasn’t there when we had an
appointment with him. We thought that he
might have lost interest and didn’t want to talk to us. We were sitting in the
burning sun and just said, “Well no reason to be sad, let’s work really hard
and achieve our goals!!” For the next 5 hours and 30 mins we were knocking on
doors and talking to everyone in the street.
We made a long list of potential investigators we found in the area
book, so when one of us was doing a contact the other was calling people on the
list. Hahah, we knocked on this really long road named “the road of happiness”
in Portuguese. The name was a lie because
not one person said they wanted to talk with us. We got home that night absolutely
dead. We talked about it and decided even though nothing was going our way, we should still do everything we can tomorrow. This was a test of our faith and we needed to
work even harder the next day.
Then the next day we
worked hard and saw blessings happen! We got our recent convert ready to receive
the priesthood so now he can baptize his daughter (our investigator) on the
17th of June!! And we finally got in contact with Rodrigo who had been at his grandma’s
house and couldn’t answer our calls. He
is still interested and wants to have another lesson with us! It was a
miracle!! But still it was Sunday night and we only had 3 more hours
to work and knew that we still needed to reach our goals! At 6 pm we
had a prayer asking for inspiration on where to go to find a "golden investigator". We got an answer to go to a place we don’t usually
work. We went there immediately and
started knocking on some doors. While we were knocking on this door a women and
her teenage son started running towards us. She said, “I need your help, I need
your help. I passed by your church earlier today and felt the strong feeling
that it was the true church. I tried going
inside but it was locked. I need to follow your church! I am looking for
happiness in my life and I need your help." I was looking at my comp like,
"WHAT???? this is not happening!!!”
We followed her and her son to their house and we taught them! Man, they are perfect! Her name is Natalia
and her son is João. They told us a really long story about how they have been
looking for the truth! We marked them for a day of baptism on the 24th of June!
She was really excited!! I couldn’t believe what happened after that lesson! I
am so happy to be a servant of the Lord! I know that with sacrifice, He will
bless us!
This week the
spiritual thing I learned was that with sacrifice, God can work miracles though
us! And the temporal thing I learned was to try to avoid ever using a taxi. We
wasted 20 euros from the airport to Angra. Always look for another option! Today
for pday we went on a really cool hike over 7 cidades (volcanos)! It was great!
I love you all so
much!! FICAM BEM!!!
