What a crazy week. First off,
I will have to say the highlight of my week was talking to my beautiful mother
via skype on Mother’s Day. I am so grateful for her and the sacrifices she has
made to help me stay on the right path. She is the best example in my life and
I promise you she is the most Christ-like person I know. SO thank you mom, I
love you so much and am so lucky to be your son.
A funny story--so we
were contacting this guy in the streets and here in the Açores there are A LOT
of drunk people. This drunk guy in the
middle of our contact started running over to us screaming swear words then
came up to my comp and started hitting him, we just started running away and he
was chasing after us then he tripped and face planted it. I will have to admit
that I started laughing. So that doesn’t happen every day here--so it was
something new. Also Ben Fica (a soccer club in Lisbon) won the championship
game so everyone here was going crazy in the streets. There was a huge parade and it was really fun
to watch what people did... (I hope I wasn’t like that after Orem High won a
basketball game!)
We had zone conference
this week and it went really well. Pres Tavares taught us about how we need to
be diligent and be determined. I loved it so much. I am always in awe when President shares his
message with us.
As far as the work
goes this week, it was a little slow. Every day this week we had a lot of appointments
and plans but all of them fell through in about 10 minutes in the morning, so
they rest of the day we would go finding.
When we were an hour away from home by foot and we thought things can’t
get any worse, a SNAP OF THUNDER & A HUGE RAIN STORM CAME DOWN. hahaha But we
remembered the message of President Tavares to be “determined” and we looked at
each other and said we will find someone to teach today! Later we knocked on a door and a 17 year old
boy opened it and let us in. His name is Rodrigo and he had a lot of questions
about God. He told us that he believes in God but that God is not a good being
or bad being but a neutral being because there is so much suffering in the
world. We taught him about the plan of salvation and he had so many questions.
I was loving it, seeing the lightbulb go off in his head was a great experience!!!
He had the best questions, we were trying to stay to the basics and not to go
to deep into doctrine. We returned and taught the 1st lesson about the Book of Mormon.
He said he will pray to find out if this is the true church. We will meet with
him this week. It just goes to show that if we are determined and diligent that
God will open the doors to us. I hope Rodrigo will find the answers he is
looking for!!
One thing that Elder
Nogueira and I did this week was after a long day of working we’d sit on the
patio and play ukulele songs next to a fire.
It’s such a good way to just relax before bed. I love Elder Nogueira and
will miss him!!
I love you all and
hope you know that I know this church is true! I love the gospel of Christ!!
