Lots of stuff has happened
this week! One of the elders in our house got sick last Monday so the sickness
has been spreading around. Unfortunately, I got sick a couple of days ago and
am still fighting through it. I realized
that I’ve been super fortunate since this is the first time in my mission I
really got sick.
Well on the positive
side we had a baptism! Remember the man I called “elect Nelson"? Well it’s true, he really
is elect! He was baptized this last Thursday by the stake president. Nelson is
from Angola and is a stud! He is really wealthy but humble. He has a family of
5 at home in Angola and is going to bring them back to Portugal and wants us to
teach them. The coolest thing he said to us this week was, "I have had everything
in my life but I was missing God. I want God in my life more than anything. When
you have everything in your life but are missing God, you have nothing. And if
you have nothing but have God, you have everything." Just an example of how
elect he is. His baptism was really special. We had his family on skype for the
baptism and I was able to talk to them for a while. Excited to teach them!
We broke the mission
record for baptisms in the month of November! It was super great and we were
excited! But now we’ve got to break it again in December!
I keep learning cool things
in the scriptures and through talking with my comp. In 3rd Nephi it states,
"Verily, verily, I say unto you, I give unto you to be the salt of the
earth; but if the salt shall lose its savor wherewith shall the earth be
salted? The salt shall be thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out and
to be trodden under foot of men." Salt was super expensive in those days and
it was used to preserve meat. If the salt was bad the meat would spoil. So if
we are the salt of the earth, we have to preserve the world with good works. And
if we don’t then we are good for nothing and the world won’t be preserved. I thought
about that a lot this week. Third Nephi is dope.
The temporal thing I
learned this week is don’t drive with the flu—you’ll have some pretty close
calls due to being drowsy.
Tenham uma boa
semana!!
