WHAT A WEEK!!! Since it was
the first week of the transfer we had missionary council with all of the zone
leaders. It’s always fun to go back to Lisbon and see all my buds again. We
took the train up and the executive missionaries picked us up from the train
station and then we all went to the airport to pick up the Açores zone leaders.
Before heading to bed we went to McDonalds.
It was so sweet eating a good dinner with those missionaries! The next
morning we had the mission council...wow, it was so good. We talked about how to
keep our momentum going. We broke the mission record for baptisms in the month
of September and are still trying to reach our mission goal. It is really high for Europe but I know we
will achieve it! President Tavares talked to us about how we can be better
leaders and it was really inspiring! We
got back later that night to Faro and went right to work with the 2 hours we
had left that day. We found a Brazilian named Jose and he has some real
potential.
There
were miracles! On Saturday between the conference sessions we were looking
for people to teach and we had a weird feeling to stop by this less active that
I still don’t know. We passed by and he was home and let us in. We saw about 5
teenagers running around the house and we said,
"Natalino, do you have children?" He said, "Yes! I have 5
and they all moved here last week from Cape Verde!" I couldn’t believe
what I was hearing. We talked to the
children (Eder-17, Tayarini-19, Edizana-13, Edzanra12) and watched some of
General Conference with them and taught them about baptism... I am so excited
to see what will happen with this family!
The
next miracle is a woman named Lidia. Before General Conference I was calling
people from the area book to invite them to come and watch conference with us. This
65 yo woman answered the phone and said she would. We didn’t think anything of it really because
a lot of people will say they will go so that they can end the call and stop us
from annoying them. BUT SHE ACTUALLY CAME! She entered and said, “Oh you’re
Elder Herrmann! Can I tell you a secret? This is my first time in the church.” Then
after the conference she came up to me and said, "I want one of those
books that they talked about (Book of Mormon). We will talk with her today and
I am excited to give her the Book of Mormon and help her follow Christ!
I
love being a missionary and seeing miracles like these. The temporal thing I
learned this week was that it is always better to talk things out instead of
letting them build up inside of you—miracles follow, I promise!
The
spiritual things I learned from general conference were too many to count! I KNOW without a doubt that we have a living
prophet and apostles who speak with authority and share messages inspired by God.
I was sad when I heard about Elder Hales, but it’s all good! I know he is carrying on the work in the
spirit world!!
Today
for pday we went paintballing again. It
was so fun, even though I got shot in the head and had green hair hahaha! LOVE
YOU ALL! This gospel is the best!
-Elder
Herrmann
