Well this week was great!!
Lots of things happened such as Trump winning the election which caused everyone
here (all very liberal) when they saw an American (me) walking in the street to
stop me and comment on the election and then curse me....oh Portugal how I love
thee!
I am learning a lot of
patience here. My comp is kind of like me "stubborn" but he is my trainer
so I always have to respect him. For example this week it was downright pouring
rain and we were about to go home. The rain came out of nowhere and I hadn’t
brought a jacket but my comp had. It was
a 15 min walk home so I asked him if we could run. He replied, "Why would I do that since I
have a jacket?" So yes, we walked home for 15 minutes in downpour. When we
entered the house I was pretty mad, he looked at me and said, “Elder, I am just
helping you." I said, "HOW?"
He then told me, "I am giving you wife points, the more difficulty
you deal with on your mission the better your wife will be." Don’t think
that it is true but if it is, then I’m down with it—haha!
I had an interesting experience while I was on splits. We taught a guy I had never met before. We went in and I started off by saying, “So our message is centered around families, do you have a spouse or kids or something?" He then paused and said, "No, I am gay, I used to have a partner, does that count?" It was rather awkward as he would comment on my hair or tie or something. He wasn’t interested in our message but maybe someday.
I finally finished Alma
and started Helaman!! I love the scripture Helaman 5:12!! It talks about
how Christ is our rock in times of storms caused by the devil. I thought about
it a lot and all the times in Lake Powell that we would spend so much time
digging and then tying the boat to the anchors. I personally thought that it wasn’t
necessary but after some big storms the winds proved to me why we need to have very
solid anchors to keep our boat in place. It’s the same with our life, if Christ
is our "anchor" or "rock" no matter what comes our way it
will all be fine!
Our golden investigator, Luis is ready to be baptized!! He loves the gospel so much and I love him so much!! The only sad part is he wants his friend from Germany to baptize him and he can only come down in December, so I might get transferred before he gets baptized!
This week was the
primary program for our ward and it was so fun seeing them up there singing. It
was such a real testament to me why Christ said, "Become as a little child."
They are so innocent and so loving which are hard qualities to come by. It also
reminded me of my nephews and man I miss them!
My comp and I decided
this week that we wanted to "take it up a notch" in our work. We would
pick a street and go for 4 straight hours hitting every door and talking to
every person. We filled every minute of our day and had 4 back up plans. The
days were really long and hard but at the end of the day it was so good--leaving
it all out on the field! The results were
that we have two people committed to baptism and are teaching a new
family! I challenge everyone to personally "take it up a notch" in everything they are doing that is good.
A cool experience
while we were knocking doors happened when nothing was going our way and no one
wanted to listen to us. At the last
door I felt and said, “There is someone who is ready for baptism behind this
door," to my comp. This lady opened the door and she loved to talk and was
so kind. We are going back to teach her and she seems so prepared.
This week I learned
about the importance of priesthood power! It’s so much more than we think. I love this quote from Thomas S. Monson!
"The gift of the priesthood is priceless, it carries with it the authority
to act as God’s servants. There is
nothing else to compare with it in all the world." Makes me want to use it
to bless lives.
I love you guys! This
mission is truly a blessing in my life and I am so happy! Have an amazing week!
Fica Bem!!
