8/22/16 - A bunch of "Bad Luck"

It’s unbelievable that I am half way done with my MTC experience! I do not know why people make the MTC seem like such a drag, it’s AMAZING!  I am so happy and everyone around me is so happy! This week lots of stuff happened--there were some funny moments, embarrassing moments, and spiritual moments.

First off, I have some advice for the soon-to-be missionaries, “DO NOT let another missionary cut your hair”.  They will want to play a prank on you and shave off your side burns!! Next, DON’T play with a ball in your dorms after quiet time.  The Lord knows and will give you a reminder that the time is His, my reminder was that the ball whacked me in the eye which resulted in a swollen shut black eye!  Last, DO NOT stuff your face with food every meal, you WILL get food poisoning. Even though a bunch of "bad luck" happened this week I am still so happy and love to be here!! I’ve learned to laugh at my mistakes (which are a lot) haha!

Some of the funny things that happened this week were that we received two new Elders in our zone and we thought it would be funny if their District leader said he was from Germany and talked to them in this ridiculous German accent! It went on for 3 days and they believed it! Also, in Portuguese two words that are similar are gravada which means tie and gravida which means pregancy...so you can see where this is going. I was in a lesson with one of my investigators and I thought I said, "hey nice tie," but I actually said, "hey nice pregnancy." It was sooooo funny and I was so embarrassed!

We upped our investigators to 3 every day! It’s crazy stressful planning for all of their needs in such a short amount of time. I love each of them so much and truly want them to have the gospel. Ana is an inactive member so for our last lesson I prepared a scripture from 2nd Nephi.  I asked her to read it and when she did you could feel the spirit go through her as she read the verse. She looked up with tears in her eyes and I also had tears in mine as she told me about how she was praying for an answer to go back to church and that scripture was her answer. It’s crazy how the Lord guides us when preparing for lessons. The Holy Ghost is the best wingman, he’s always got my back! Next is Fabio who is a logical thinker, that can be hard because belief in the church is a lot of faith and not all logic. I talked to him about how logical it is that a 14 year old boy wrote such a complex book. He agreed and started reading the Book of Mormon! Now the last person is really close to my heart.  We signed up for a TRC in English with a real investigator.  She is catholic and goes to BYU. It was so nice teaching in English as we taught her about God’s love for her. It was such a spiritual experience for me as I really did want her to feel the joy and love that the gospel brings. Also after that lesson it hit me how much God loves me and how blessed I am!

We had an amazing devotional on Tuesday as this lady talked about how you only serve a mission once. It hit me hard, there is NO TIME for rest, and these two years I have to be going my hardest trying to bring everyone unto Christ! Also, as I have been reading Mosiah I have discovered a new hero in my life, King Benjamin--MAN what a guy!! He is just such a great example to me as I was reading about him on top of the temple preaching to everyone and saying that all he wants is to please God and be his servant. I want to be like that in my life. It is a privilege to serve God and wear Christ’s name over my heart.

On Wednesday both Elder Robins group and our group got to host the new missionaries arriving. We knew that Elder Bunker was coming so we were on the lookout for him. They tell the missionaries NOT to freak out when you see your friend while hosting but when we saw Elder Bunker’s car we couldn’t hold in our excitement and started screaming and jumping for joy.  We both got to be his host and show him around, it was amazing! This week the MSD (missionary smack down) was sweet! I don’t think I have ever laughed so hard. Being the commentator is sweet! Whoever says that you can’t laugh or be happy on a mission is wrong!!

I love this gospel and know it is true!! It brings TRUE and EVERLASTING joy! I love you all!
